Unusual -

I know it is unusual for me to make something so pink!  But when I saw these doilies and the beautiful stitching, I could not stop myself from buying them!  So this little swag is simply doilies folded in half and sewn.  It has found a perfect home above my frame filled with all flowers pink from my garden.
This is a short posting, enjoy your day, Michelle.

Woolshed love

I have a love for wool shed's and I'm sure it is because of the memories that stir in me when I see or visit a wool shed.  My dad was a shearer and contractor, my parents where sheep farmers and we spent time in them when I was growing up, both my brothers can shear, I made a bit of money as a wool handler-rousie-fleece-sewer(all names given for a shed hand.), I met my husband in a wool shed,( he was a shearer), we had our wedding photos in a wool shed, now my kids are learning to shear and spent the summer pressing (a job in the wool shed where they press the wool into bales).  It sure is funny this circle of life!!
This has lead me to make these pillows, which remind me of the old bales of  old time, they even have that smell about them!, minus the wool..

The numbers are our different birthdays and the brands are all brands that used to be stencilled onto the bales in the old days.  Now days they use a marker pen and hand write them.  The old bales used to be made of jute-which is like the burlap now.  (just out of interest these are actually old feed sacks given to me by my sister in-law)

BIN-is a bale of wool made up of all left over wool from different lines.
EWE- this is ewe (female sheep) wool.
LBS-this is lambs (Baby sheep) wool.
PCS-this is pieces-made up of the dirty bits of wool taken from the edge of the fleece.
HGT-this is hogget wool (that is basically a teenage sheep)

Well I am off to milk some cows, so I hope you all have a great weekend, Michelle.

Rustic angel

I started this pillow last week before the girls came and yesterday finished the inner to give me a finish!  It is a
Meme pattern.  It had fabric pennies for her hair but I changed that to rusty bells and her a charming wee rusty bell for decoration.
Have a great week, Michelle.

Sunday, 10 March 2013

Wow it is Sunday morning and I have milked the cows, fed the piggies, had breakfast, hung 2 loads of washing out and now blogging and if is only 7.50 am!  I hope I can get as much sewing in as I have other jobs this morning! ( Now if the truth be known its only because Mike and the boys are away in Te Kuiti shearing and fencing, other wise I would still be in Bed!!!)
Last week our stitching group met here for our monthly meet, it is always great catching up with the girls.  Last month our group missed a meeting and our theme was red, so here is a little show and tell......
I made these little red felt shoes.

Michelle made these cute strawberries and gave us each one!
Thanks Michelle.

Nicky painted this food cover red (it is a  very cool red paint)
and then decorated it with a key and fabric heart.

Claire pieced together this gorgeous stitchery quilt!

I would like to add that Claire's  mum Nancy did these gorgeous
stitchery - Claire you are spoilt!!!!

Now red was for February and this months was laundry/wash house, now Michelle and Claire where the only ones to finish theirs -so far!!  Claire re- painted her laundry and decorated it, it looks gorgeous she brought us photos on her I pad, I will have to go around and take some photos to show you!  And Michelle made this cute peg apron-the fabric is very cute!  I had planned to also re do my laundry but never quite made the deadline.  I promise by the end of the month it will be done.
