A day in May for Kindred Heart Stitchers

Last week the KHS met at Claire's house for our monthly meet.  Another day of great food and wonderful company.(I do enjoy these days!!)  The month before Claire gave us this.......

The fabric is beautiful! So we had to use everything above in some way.  So this is what Nick did....

This is a Tilda doll that she has enlarged!!!  The wings are wooden!  And this is what I made.....

 The quilt and pillow is going into an antique dolls pram I brought,( will show soon !)

I must thank Michelle as the photos of mine creations and Claire's came from her blog, which brings me to Michelle's mades, I have been waiting for her to blog hers as I only got one photo of some of her creations not all, but this is some of what she made............

The bottle pin cushion is very cute!  So another great day and I am looking forward to next month which is bag month??????

'A night with the Knights'

This past 2 weeks has flown by and mainly because I have been part of a small group of wonderful parents pulling together a huge fundraiser to help our boys get to Australia to a rugby carnival in July.  Of course organising started late last year, but on Saturday night all our hard work paid off.  It was huge with about 400 people attending.  We were supposed to have two Knights but due to ill health we only had one and that was a great bloke known as....Sir Colin Meads who is an All Black legend here in New Zealand and across the ditch in fact around the world.  He is certainly a great entertainer and all round icon for the many generations to look up too.  He spent some quality time with the boys before the formal part of the night started.  We also had former All Black and a good friend Gordon Slater as MC for the night, he did a great job!  We also had a few auctions which after walking the pavement and quite a few phone calls (thanks to Rolly,Mike, me and Julie) we made an incredible $12500.00-amazing effort!!!!!  So not sure of the total amount made yet, that will be in about a weeks time but it is looking fantastic!!!
This weekend was also the opening of duck shooting season, so the boys and my dad headed out on Sunday morning-only 1 duck fell pray, I think the other dozen are still feeling pretty safe!

So now life can get back to normal and I can do some craft, which I have noticed that I have missed!  I have the kindred heart stitches challenge to do, no ideas yet but have a few days to sort myself!  Must admit feeling pretty flat and tired at the moment.

In need of a cuppa

Just a quick post because sitting back looking at the state of my lounge and kitchen rite now I think I need my head read!!  Thought it was time for a change around and a dust (that is long over due !!) as for the change around -  I am limited as we live in such a small house, and now I wish I had never started but there is only one way and that is too finish! So a quick cuppa and then back to it.  I am pleased with  my mangle and kitchen unit..............................

Well better get back to it and I promise in the next few days to reply to all those who have sent comments and email.

Kindred Heart Stitchers

Yesterday our group met at Michelle's place for our monthly get together, she has her home looking so beautiful!  Love the dresser with all the blue and white ( makes me want to get mine out ?!! but no room!!) But it is so beautiful.  So yesterday was supposed to be day were we made our paper mache, but communication break down they had already done it, so lucky I took along my unpicking along.  As usual Michelle had a yummy lunch which was topped off with the most Divine raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake!!

It was also Nancy's birthday month, we gave her our pressies but I was so wrapped up in watching her unwrapping her goodies I forgot to take a photo !  But I do have a photo of her with the kids decorating the gingerbread men she made for the kids to decorate!

Claire brought along a quilt she finished and while there yesterday, sewed on a binding and hand stitched it down! (Well done Claire-hate that job!!)  The first quilt pictured below is the finish and the second is the binding one- so love this quilt!! Clever lady- but don't tell her that !!

Was a great day with lots of laughs and fab food, and when I thought the day couldn't get any better Claire gave us an envelope with goodies in  it for next months challenge.  We all have the same and can do anything with it but we have to use everything or at lease a piece of everything! It is so exciting, can't wait to see what we all make ?

Now the thinking has began, no idea at the moment, but I have a month and I think I will need it.  Enjoy your Wednesday, Michelle.

Finally a finish!

Can't believe this is my first post for April and we are half way thru the month!  I seem to be busy at the moment but not alot of craft, (not good!)
At the beginning of every year I always sit down with my craft books and mags and look thru them dreaming of what projects I am going to do in the year ahead, well amazing to me ...........I have finished one that I chose.  I narrow down the projects to 3, hoping that it is not too much pressure and I will get one finished!
I can tick this one off the list...........................

I had thought of making two of these..........................hmmm NO !  This was quite a bit of work, which surprised me ! This was in an old Country Threads pattern in Vol 1 No 5.
  Busy week ahead, on Tuesday we have Kindred Heart Stitches, seems funny this month as we didn't have a project to do we are going to do it at Michelle's.  I am looking forward to catching up with the girls!

Kindred Heart Stitchers-last week !

Been having a few problems with uploading photos-(do you buy more space???- any help would be appreciated!)
Any whoo getting back to KHS, it was last week and was alot of fun.  So much laughing, good food and company, what a great way to spend the day!  Our theme for the month was kitchen and as usual a aray of projects turned up.  Above is mine, not finished as I couldn't get any glue to stick to the muffin pan, it was suggested that I paint the inside and try that.  In the back ground is some bobbins and a heart Nicky gave me.
I also tried my hand a painting,  this is in a loaf tin and now hangs in my kitchen.

Michelle made an apron and has yet to put some chicken scratch stitching on it, she also made a apron for her dish washing liquid and was knitting a kitchen mat from fabric selvages-very productive month!

 Loraine also made some aprons for her granddaughters not quite finished but lucky granddaughters when she is!  The fabric is very cute.

What can I say, I love this idea ! And as for that box and those doilies I wander if she will notice it at my place?


That leaves us with Claire, who brought along 3 things and she knitted us all a lovely cream cotton dish cloth - thanks Claire, mine looks too nice to use, so it may be a display for now.

My boy's

Yesterday I was home by myself as Hubie had gone to Te Kuiti to do stock work and Ben had gone to the Central Field days with the school and my youngest Cody had gone with some family friends also to the Field days.  I was left at home to catch up on washing and milk - which I did not mind at all!  When they returned last night and began telling me all about their day and what had happened, Cody pulled out of his bag a gift for me.   'I brought you this Mum because you where left at home by yourself and had to milk while we where having fun', after this wee speech he gave this beautiful picture which was so my taste!

I love this!

When I went to bed last night, I was smiling and this was a little reminder to me about how proud I am of my boys who are growing into the loving, caring, hard working young men I have always wanted them to grow into.  Which got me thinking about the promise I made to myself

when I became their mum there was a few things I wanted for my boys, I wanted them to know how much they where loved everyday, I wanted them to have respect for themselves and others, I wanted them to know that family is forever and that we are always here for them and that they should be there for each other,  I wanted them to treasure the little things in life, I also want them to take every opportunity that comes their way big or small because you never know where it will lead or who it may lead too!  I wanted them to be honest and hard working, I wanted them to be able to talk to me no matter what and sometimes I may be disappointed but will always love them.  When I became their mum I saw this as my job to instill as many of these values as possible, and so far I am very proud of how they are evolving.  So I think this is enough ramblings of a proud Mum.  I know that I am blessed.
